Did the Cubs Win?

OSS: Wood puts one 15 rows into the bleachers, Lake drives in 2 with a triple, and Rizzo hits a ball 700 feet.

Three Up

1. Jesus Christ, is Anthony Rizzo good. He absolutely destroyed a ball in this game (20 rows up right-center field). Probably 415 feet on a pop fly, which is crazy. He went 2-4 with the solo dinger and a single.

2. Darwin Barney hit two doubles! His OPS exploded to .529, which combined with a 1-4 day from Kris Bryant, allows him to take a commanding lead in the Grand Battle.

3. Travis Wood wasn’t great on the mound, but he was serviceable (5 IP, 2 R, 5 BB, 3 SO). At the plate, though, he was nails, hitting a 2-run bomb and driving in another in a 1-2, 3 RBI, HR day. Wood’s OPS this year is .924.

Three Down

1. The Grimm Reaper hung one to Andrew Brown to tie the game up. Grimm has been stout this year, but he’d like to have that pitch back most definitely.

2. Nasty Nate’s “hot streak” is over. He went 0-3 with a walk and two strikeouts. He’s one of about 3 people on this team that should probably be DFA’ed.

3. Justin Ruggiano‘s line was identical to Nate Schierholtz‘s. He shouldn’t be DFA’ed, but he also shouldn’t start. Cubs!

Quick Hits

Cubs walked 5 times, only struck out 8…Neil Ramirez got the save after Rondon was used in 2 consecutive games (and looked great doing it)…Mets left 11 on base, going 2-11 with RISP… deGrom went 1-2, so pitching in this game went 2-5 with a double and a home run…Cubs drafted Kyle Schwarber and Jake Stinnett (links to our treatments of those players).
