OSS: Cubs draw double digit walks, but lose Bryant to a mild ankle sprain.

Three up:

  1. The Cubs drew 11 walks against the Brewers, who were unable to find the strike zone the whole game. All of the starters got on base at least once, but they were led by Anthony Rizzo who drew three walks and hit a double in the third. Brewers pitchers threw 199 pitches in this game.
  2. David Ross hit a towering home run onto Waveland, despite the wind howling in at game time.
  3. Joe pulled Jake Arrieta at the right time on a day when he wasn't at his sharpest, breaking his quality start streak. No reason to put him back out there when the Cubs already had a large lead and Arrieta had thrown a ton of pitches.

Three down:

  1. Kris Bryant was hit by pitches twice and eventually left the game after rolling his ankle while running the bases. Apparently it looks prety minor, but keeping my fingers crossed here.

The Brewers pitchers are so all over the place I wouldn't rule out Bryant getting hit by another pitch while in the dugout.

  2. I was surprised when this game clocked in at around four hours, because it felt like forty. I guess we're going to have to get used to this with the Cubs drawing so many walks all the time.
  3. I'm not sure which is more surprising, that Capuano is still in the majors or that Rich Hill is.

Next game: Cubs v Barves, no time for a proper preview for this series unless someone else wants to write it. But all you have to know is that Jeff Francouer is playing a prominent role on this team following their starting LF's arrest for battery while on the road earlier this month. They're saying goodbye to Turner Field in the most apt way.
