Cubs 2, Cleveland 1 (8/24/15)

OSS: Kris Bryant picks up Jon Lester with a walkoff blast.

Three up

1. After a week where the Cubs seemed to have scored roughly 217 runs, it was jarring to see them shut down for a game. The Cubs finally got through to Kluber with a RBI triple by Rizzo in the seventh, though Ross had just missed a HR earlier in the game.

2. Jon Lester missed a complete game shutout by one out, giving up a game tying single with two outs in the ninth. Rondon came in to finish the inning. Even without the CG, it was a fantastic bounceback start for Lester, who got pummeled in his last outing.

3. Kris Bryant deposited a ball in the RF bleachers for what feels like the 20-30th walkoff win for the Cubs this year. It’s been a fun ride.

Three down

1. The Cubs struck out 14 times in this game and Kluber had a perfect game through five innings, but much like with Chris Sale’s recent outing it’s tough to complain when the reigning Cy Young award winner mows you down.

2. Schwarber muffed the game tying single a bit when fielding it, and if it had gone any worse then Bryant’s HR would have just been a game tying shot.

3. Bummer to see Jorge Soler hitting the DL, but stints like this were one of the worries we had going into the year, new stretching routine or not.

Next up: Arrieta vs Cain, 9:15 PM CT. At least I’m actually on the west coast for the Cubs other road trip out here. Too bad they couldn’t have come to SD this week.
