OSS: Cubs beat a Cy winner for the second day in a row

Three up

1. Hammel was cruising in this game, barely breaking a sweat until the Dodgers started to put a mini-rally together in the eighth. He only gave up two hits in 7.2 shutout innings, striking out six and somehow managed not to yawn while working on the mound.

2. Ryan Dempster knocked in the game winning run with the bases clogged in the tenth inning. The scoring chances were few and far between for both teams the entire game – Rizzo’s leadoff walk in the sixth inning was the only time in the first nine innings that either team had a win expectancy of over 60%.

3. Gotta love the guy who caught a foul ball right in Adrian Gonzalez’s face, while feeding an infant in the other arm.

Three one down

1. Neither team really had anything going until the Cubs came through to win it, so it’s hard to pick on anyone here. Addison Russell had the only really big negative WPA play of the night for the Cubs when he grounded into a fielder’s choice (that could easily have been a double play) with the bases loaded in the tenth.

Next game: Mike Bolsinger vs Kyle Hendricks, 7:05 PM CT
