JOT: Cubs Minor League Recap 8-25-13

In Commentary And Analysis, Minor Leagues by myles2 Comments

Memphis Redbirds 11 @ Iowa Cubs 5

Dave Sappelt went 2-4 with a double and a home run, Mike Olt went 1-4, and I went into my bedroom and cried for watching this shitpile of a team.

Brooks "Lendy Castillo" Raley went 2 innings and allowed 7 runs. Thanks, Obama.

Mobile BayBears 2 @ Tennessee Smokies 0

Javier Baez had half of the hits for Tennessee (Christian Villanueva had the other single). Arismendy Alcantara and Justin Bour both walked twice, but the team struck out 12 times.

Brett Jackson walked once and struck out thrice.

Nick Struck out 2 in his game, but took the loss because his team couldn't score. He allowed 2 runs in 6 innings. Yeiper Castillo threw 3 scoreless.

Daytona Cubs 11 @ Tampa Yankees 2

Dan Vogelbach and Kris Bryant. Very exciting. Vogelbach walked twice and singled once. Bryant doubled and singled. Anthony Giansanti, Wes Darvill, Ben Carhart, and Yaniel Cabezas all had two hits. Pin-Chieh Chen walked twice.

Ivan Pineyro was awesome. I like this Scott Hairston trade. He went 6 innings and allowed just one run. He did have a game-WHIP of 1.25, but he struck out 6 and his ERA is now 2.93 on the year. He could end up being something, someday. All told, Scott Hairston was worth zero to our team, and Pineyro is worth slightly more than nothing. Win! Yao-Lin Wang allowed a run in 3 innings.

Kane County Cougars 1 @ Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 3

Willson Contreras doubled twice, and Marco Hernandez/Carlos Escobar doubled once. That was basically it.

Starling Peralta had 5.1 innings and allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits and 3 walks. Al Yevoli did very well in 2.2 innings.

Boise Hawks 5 @ Hillsboro Hops 6 (10 innings)

The Hawks walked 10 times and struck out 9. 4 of the 9 were Yasiel Balaguert, unfortunately. David Bote doubled and singled and Kevin Encarnacion doubled and walked. Shawon Dunston walked thrice, and Jacob Rogers walked twice and singled.

Dillon Maples pitched 5 innings and allowed 4 runs (0 earned). He basically earned them, with 4 hits and 4 walks allowed. Corbin Hoffner had 3 innings of 1-run ball, and Tyler Bremer allowed the winning run in the 10th.

AZL Cubs 1 @ AZL Reds 5
