Matt Szczur was 3-4 with a triple and run scored. Arismendy Alcantara has started to hit the baseball and was 2-4 with a home run. Javier Baez was 1-3 with a strikeout. He was hit by a pitch, which he’s not afraid to take. Chris Coghlan was 1-3 with a walk and Logan Watkins was 1-2 with a walk.
Christian Villanueva is not finding AAA too easy. He was 0-4 with 3 strikeouts and has now struck out in over 27% of his plate appearances. He’s walked plenty, but overall, he’s batting .189/.290/.340 with a wRC+ of 56. Only 62 plate appearances though.
Kyle Hendricks allowed only 2 hits in 6 innings. He didn’t surrender a run, walked 2 and struck out 6. Yoanner Negrin struck out 1 in an inning and closer Brian Schlitter allowed 2 hits and a run in 2 innings.
The Smokies scored 10 runs on just 9 hits. He walked an absurd 12 times. Twelve! They also struck out 13 times. John Andreoli was 2-6 with 3 strikeouts. Jae-Hoon-Ha was 3-5 with a double and home run. Rubi Silva was 2-5 with a home run of his own and struck out twice. Rafael Lopez and Charles Cutler were hitless in 2 at-bats, but each walked 3 times. Cutler struck out once.
Dae-Eun Rhee threw 5 innings, allowed 4 hits and 2 runs. He walked 5 and struck out 4. Austin Kirk threw 3 innings, allowed 4 hits and 2 runs. Both runs were from home runs. Tony Zych pitched the 9th and allowed 2 hits and a run.
Pin-Chieh Chen was 2-5 with a strikeout. Chadd Krist was 3-5 and Jeimer Candelario decided to hit. He was 2-4 with 2 doubles. Marco Hernandez was 1-5 and so was Bijan Radenmacher, Albert Almora and Tim Saunders.
Jake Arrietta wasn’t good and I’m not really sure why he made this start for Daytona. He threw 5.2 innings, allowed 5 hits and 5 runs. He walked 2, struck out 7 and allowed 3 home runs. Jose Rosario struck out 4 in 4 innings and Arodys Vizcaino pitched a clean 9th for the save.
Vizcaino has made 6 appearances this year and he’s thrown 6 innings, allowed 4 hits and a run. He’s walked 2 and struck out 6. I had hoped the Cubs would try to stretch him, but they appear content to stick with an inning at a time right now.
Carlos Penalver and Ben Carhart had 2 hits. Penalver also walked once. Jacob Hanneman was 1-5 with a strikeout. Yasiel Balaguert, Jacob Rogers and Daniel Canela were each 1-4. Danny Lockhart was 1-3 and walked.
Jen-Ho Tseng threw 5 innings, allowed 7 hits and 3 runs. He walked 1 and struck out 3. Tyler Bremer pitched 2 innings, allowed 2 hits, walked 1 and struck out 3. Josh Davis also pitched 2 innings, allowed 2 hits and 2 runs. He walked and struck out 1.
