Iowa Cubs

Chris Valaika was 2-3 with a double, RBI and walk. He also scored a run. Arismendy Alcantara was 1-5 with a triple and RBI. He struck out once. Logan Watkins was 2-2 with a walk and Eli Whiteside was 2-3 with an RBI and walk. Christian Villanueva was 1-2 with a double, 2 walks and a run scored.

Eric Jokisch threw 5.2 innings, allowed 3 hits and 3 runs, but none were earned. He walked 2 and struck out 5. Alberto Cabrera struck out 2 and walked 1 in 1.1 innings of work. He allowed 1 hit. Neil Ramirez struck out the side in his inning of work. He walked 1. Brian Schlitter allowed 1 run on a hit and walk in the 9th.

Tennessee Smokies Game 1

The Smokies had one hit in game 1. They’re the new Chicago Cubs of doubleheaders. They bore you so much in game 1 that you can’t possibly vision yourself watching game 2. That’s good strategy right there. Dustin Geiger had the only hit while Zeke DeVoss and Rafael Lopez each walked.

Corey Black impersonated Carlos Marmol in his 4 innings of work. He allowed only 2 hits, but walked 5 and 3 of the base runners scored. Austin Kirk allowed a run on 1 hit and a strikeout in 2 innings of work. Tony Zych pitched the 7th and final inning of the doubleheader. He allowed 2 hits and 2 walks, but no one scored.

Tennessee Smokies Game 2

The Smokies had 6 hits and 6 players had them.

Kris Bryant this one, but he may not have gotten a hit in this one, but he did take 2 walks. He was 0-1 and struck out in that plate appearance.

Dae-Eun Rhee allowed 6 hits and 2 runs in 4 innings of work. He walked a batter and struck out 4. Hunter Cervenka threw 2 innings, allowed 3 hits and struck out 3. Armando Rivero picked up the save in 1 inning. He allowed a hit, walked 1 and struck out 3.

Daytona Cubs

The Chicago Cubs can brag about getting off to a better start than the Daytona Cubs. They’re 2-12 after this 6-5 heartbreaking loss to Tampa.

Tim Saunders was 2-4 with a home run and a walk. Albert Almora was 1-5 and he struck out twice. Jeimer Candelario walked twice and was 0-2. Rock Shoulders was 3-4 with an RBI and a walk.

Rob Zastryzny allowed 9 hits and only 4 runs in 4 innings of work. The good thing about his start is that he didn’t walk anyone despite facing enough batters for 6 innings. The bad news is that he didn’t strike anyone out. Well, that and the part about getting hit all over the ballpark. That was bad too.

Zach Cates threw 4 innings, allowed 2 hits and a run. He walked 1 and struck out 2. Arodys Vizcaino struck out the side while walking a batter and allowing 1 hit. Andrew McKirahan allowed 3 hits and a run in the 10th inning and took the loss. Call him up to Chicago now!

Kane County Cougars

The Cougars scored 13 runs on 19 hits as they improved to 11-3. If they don’t start losing, people are going to think this is an affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Daury Torrez had a fantastic start. He threw 8 innings and allowed only 2 hits and a run. He walked 1 and struck out 4. Nathan Dorris pitched an uneventful 9th.
