Brewers 12, Cubs 4 (5/9/15)

OSS: Kris Bryant hit his first home run. Let’s forget about the rest of this.

Three up

1. Bryant’s first homer is probably still being tracked by NORAD. It was a bomb to left center that landed in the bullpen. Now that the monkey’s off his back we should see conservatively 20 or so more of them this month. That’s how this works, right?

I’m still dying laughing at the entire Cubs team pulling off the empty dugout stunt on Bryant.

2. Dexter Fowler hit two doubles. His bat’s been getting a little warm of late.

3. James Russell and David Ross were the only Cubs pitchers with a clean sheet today, so kudos to them. Was also glad to see the Cubs dugout having such a fun time with Ross on the mound despite the blowout.

Three down

1. It’s kind of hard to believe looking back that Wood only gave up four runs. He had a hard time finding the strike zone today, which was the general theme for Cubs pitchers.

2. Edwin Jackson is around to burn some innings following a short outing from the starter, but he didn’t deliver tonight. He walked his first two batters then gave up a double to the suddenly transformed Khris Davis before exiting with no outs recorded.

3. We all felt very confident when Phil Coke was the guy tapped to get out of the jam. The inherited runners scored, and Coke gave up a three run homer to put the game truly out of reach.

Next game: Kyle Hendricks vs Matt Garza, 1:10 PM CT
