I don’t think they even have to leak anything like this because most of Cubdom already hates Soriano, or at least it seems that way.

I also thought from reading back a few days that the Giants didn’t even want Soriano so I don’t know why this is a big deal.

It’s not. It’s no bigger deal than what Dempster did, but the media will make it seem like it’s this huge issue that is greatly affecting the Cubs ability to rebuild. It’s like not trading Dempster set them back 8 years. Not trading Soriano will set them back another 14.
If the Cubs didn’t suck a player declining a trade wouldn’t even be a story. It would get a one sentence reference in a game recap and that would be it. Nobody, and I mean nobody would give a flying fuck about it.
