How many Old Styles did you have? I like to take the amount of $ wasted on Wrigley beer and calculate how much future money was lost if invested wisely
@ Rice Cube:
It’s all about the experience of beer flavored pop, peanuts that cost as much as the GNP of a small Indonesian island, and pissing in a trough like a pig. That’s the Wrigley Life.
Derek Lowe was released yesterday. The Cubs said they’re not interested, but it would make more sense that they weren’t interested in trading anything for him. He’s got a better chance of eating some innings than the likes of Germano and Raley
@ Berselius:
I assume he’d be cheap now (something like 25% of the league minimum at this point?) but I kind of like how Germano is doing so far though I wouldn’t bet on him keeping it up. It would make sense for the Cubs to keep running Raley out there to see what happens (TM)
I also think a fringe contender would be more likely to pick up a guy like Lowe but if not then the Cubs should have him on their list of veterans to sign at a bargain and then trade for upside.
@ Berselius:
Do the Cubs really need someone to eat innings? In 3 weeks there will be at least 15 to 17 pitchers on the roster. Maybe even more. I’d much rather see what Raley and Germano can do. I expect little to nothing, but it might give us an idea if they could be effective relievers down the road.
@ Rizzo the Rat:
I think that’s something religious people might remember. Looking over that wiki page I’m thinking it would be Camp David Accords or Hillside Strangler.
I know what you’re saying, I’m thinking more along the “someone’s gotta pitch” lines. I guess it’s a moot point, since Lowe isn’t worth a damn anymore either.
I don’t think much of Raley. Has he ever made a Cubs prospect list?
@ Berselius:
Never a top 10 that I’m aware of. I don’t think much of him either, but I’d much rather see him get a shot than Lowe. Lowe has no value to the future of this team. Raley might. Probably not as a starter, but he might have some value. I’d rather watch him, Casey Coleman and any pitcher at AAA or AA than Lowe.
@ mb21:
The hostages should be 1979. I remember we had yellow ribbons cut from construction paper on all our windows in jr. high. I think Camp David would be the best 1978.
1977: STAR WARS. Duh.
1976 would be the bicentennial. The red, white, and blue was everywhere that year. Pretty sure that Crayola had to come out with 8 crayon sets that were 3 red, 3 blue, and 2 white (cuz who colors with white?). Sucked to be a green or yellow crayon that year.

Typo repaired.
Maholm has a shutout going through 8.
(dying laughing) josh this is great.
@ Rizzo the Rat:
cgso in 95 pitches
@ GW:
3 hits and no walks, though he did make an error and strike out 3 times.
The ostrich confuses me.
Two more Vogelbombs… It is the third inning…
@ mb21:
Thanks
@ Rice Cube:
I count three ostriches, which makes me think that this is fake/shopped/whatever.
@ josh:
Not there’s anything wrong with that. I don’t judge other people’s shops, you know? I say shop and let shop.
I’m so drunk right now you guys.

It’ll all be forgotten by now (morning).

I’m covered until about 2030.

Josh, would you say you felt “like you drank a thousand beers, you guys”? Or did you stick mostly to top shelf margs at Chilis?
@ SVB:
I’m guessing whatever they had in 2010 is where I wasn’t old enough to remember so I guess that means I”m brilliant. (dying laughing)
what would have been 2011?

Whatever happened around 1978.
@ Rizzo the Rat:
Yeah, but what happened? My first thought was Iran hostage crisis, but that was 1979. Suppose that would be 2011. I remember that.
@ mb21:
I’m trying to find something good on Wikipedia. Seems like a pretty dull year.
Camp David Accords was 1978, right?
Would you remember something like Larry Flint getting shot or Charlie Chaplin’s coffin being stolen?
I think you could go with Pope Paul VI (who was succeeded by John Paul I that year).

Great comic work once again.

If I were being replaced by a 39-year-old pitcher with an ERA of 5.52, I’d be hurt, too.
MGL apparently watched this game. http://www.insidethebook.com/ee/index.php/site/article/how_a_manager_can_do_everything_wrong_in_one_pa_and_the_opposing_manager_ca/

my favorite so far josh. nice.
@ Rice Cube:
what don’t you get? seems pretty straightforward.
Johan Santana: 1.1 IP, 8 ER. Ouch. Fourth time in a row he’s given up 6 or more earned runs in 5 or less innings. Brought his ERA up to an ugly 4.58.
@ EnricoPallazzo:
Cool. I’m surprised anyone else finds this shit funny, frankly.
This one was definitely inspired my recent Archer marathon.
