I don’t think the Cubs will score 24 runs in any series this year. And it would still be true even if they played a 7 game series with someone (dying laughing)

I know it won’t happen but if Pujols came here as a free agent I wouldn’t expect him to say he was on the “right side” of the rivalry. It was classless and disrespectful to the org that brought him up and gave him a chance to play at the major league level. I never liked him but I also thought he would be smarter than to say what he said.

Well, the previous batter did walk on four straight balls so the pitcher was due to throw a strike. He wasn’t going to catch Koyie off-guard and sneak one by him.

I’ve never seen an outfield let so many balls split the gap and go to the wall. It’s not because they should be hit that far. It’s because they play it like that. Soriano, great as his two plays were earlier, played a single into a double and then Fukudome and Marlon Byrd don’t know how to field either.

I feel bad for Theriot now: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20110510&content_id=18881620&notebook_id=18884486&vkey=notebook_chc&c_id=chc&partnerId=rss_chc

As for the “right side” comment, which he made over the winter, Theriot made it clear he didn’t think it was such a big deal.

“To me, man, that’s just so incredibly blown out of proportion it’s ridiculous,” he said. “It’s the team you play for. I’m a Cardinal. I was a Cub and now I’m a Cardinal. I love St. Louis and I love the Cardinals.”

Theriot was loudly but not viciously booed upon coming to bat in the first inning, not the outcome he was hoping for.

“I would hope that they would give a good reception,” he said before the game. “Blood, sweat and tears at this place for five years, and the Minor Leagues coming up, starting in ’01. I’ve said this a million times: These fans here understand baseball and they appreciate effort and all that stuff. And that’s one of the reasons I loved Chicago.”

Sounds like if the Dodgers go to bankruptcy court, McCourt can keep control of the team. I hope that’s what happens. I really, really hate the idea of MLB taking over. MLB agreed to allow him to own a team, which is bullshit in itself seeing as they have no legal right to determine what McCourt or someone like Mark Cuban owns.

You should all read this, especially dj, article on Chuck Norris Colin Kaepernick.

    http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2011/05/09/SP7Q1JDJ4O.DTL&ao=all

    Excerpts include:

    — Colin once pitched a no-hitter, rode the team bus back to Pitman and was taken directly to the hospital with pneumonia.

    — Dartmouth, Harvard and Yale recruited him hard, but Kaepernick’s dream was to play Division I football. Sorry, no dice. San Jose State coaches dangled a scholarship, then disappeared. Oregon State expressed strong interest, then stopped calling. Tennessee told Colin, “You’re the No. 1 player on our board,” and invited him for a visit. A week before the trip, a Tennessee coach called to cancel the visit and rescind the scholarship offer.

    — Last summer, the Chicago Cubs offered Kaepernick at least $30,000 to come to Arizona for one month and throw a few bullpen sessions. He declined the offer, asking his dad, “What would that say about me as the leader of this team?”

Seriously, you’re complaining about $400,000 of a $140 million payroll?
by Al Yellon on May 11, 2011 11:03 AM CDT upreply

You really don’t understand…or you simply refuse to.
by santoswoodenlegs on May 11, 2011 11:10 AM CDT upreply 1 recs

    Yes, I understand.
You are bitching about 1/10 of 1% of the payroll.
by Al Yellon on May 11, 2011 11:23 AM CDT upreply

(dying laughing) Or 4 percent of the active roster.

    Wood
Was lucky to give up only 2 runs last night. He was throwing absolute meatballs dick-high straight down the plate to Pujols and Holiday who were missing. Figures the one good pitch he makes to Descalo gets roped.

    “Dick-high”
inappropriate. Do not do this again.

Large bleacher crowd While I’m sure the $3.00 beers helped. There were also 500 free bleacher tickets given away for last nights game. The tickets were given to a neighborhood church by the Cubs. I was part of that group and we probably used most of the 500 tickets that were given to us.

    Choice A: Wait in a 100-car line to get a double-double.
Choice B: Wait in a 5-car line to get a double Whataburger.

That’s an easy one for me. B? GW?

Oh yeah, I agree with you then. I never understood the idea of wasting gas in a drive-thru line, but that’s probably too far off the point.

In-N-Out burgers are really good though. If I had an equal wait time I’d eat In-N-Out. But I’m not going to wait a thousand years in a line while hemorrhaging gasoline to get that burger.

Once the novelty wears off, I’ll probably frequent 5 Guys, Whataburger and In-N-Out equally.
