Cubs hit minor hard in first. Turner field only abt half full. I’m in the box seats on the right field line.

    @ WaLi:
Yeah, Barney is the only middle infielder on this team in the last 4 years who doesn’t do that. I’m convinced they teach them to do it. There’s no other explanation. If that’s what they’re going to teach they shouldn’t even throw down there.

Braves do a tool to race between innings like the sausage race. I asked if they just used John Rocker and Michael Vick last year. College kids behind me didn’t get it.

    @ mobile svb:
I’m not laying blame anywhere. We can always tell more what other teams think of the pitcher/catcher combo by how much they run. So far it’s been clear they don’t think much of it. At least 6 sb attempts that I can remember so far in less than 4 games. The Cubs will have to show they can slow it down or all the teams will be doing it.

Feldman threw 53 strikes and 49 balls. (dying laughing) it’s going to suck watching him pitch this year and for however long that contract is.

    @ dmick89:

I think they just signed him to a one year deal.

I don’t see why the projection systems like him so much. He had a crappy ERA but good peripherals last year, but he’s 30 and his numbers are pretty shitty pre-2011

    @ dmick89:
Dioner Novarro, with the Cubs down by three runs, tried to steal second and got thrown out. It didn’t sound like the play was particularly close, which is really beside the point. The team can’t even do the basics. My enthusiasm for baseball is starting to tank.

    @ josh:
He was out by a mile. He may as well have tried to steal the Hope Diamond. Pretty sure he would have been more successful at that. I was hoping it was a failed hit and run. But since I didn’t bring a radio to listen to, I’m not sure of that.

For me the Cubs player of the day was Michael Bowden. ‘Nuff said, eh?

The fireworks show after the game was great. My 6 year old really liked that.

Bits of “wisdom” and conversations with a 6 year old at a Cubs game in Atlanta.

6: Is this guy any good? (Particularly about A. Gonzalez and Sappelt)
Me (gently): Well, no. Not really. But anyone can have a good night.

6: Are the Cubs gonna win? (First inning)
Probably not, but even a bad team wins 50 games a year or so. Tonight could be one.

Braves with 2 on. Tomahawk chant in full swing.
6: We don’t do this, do we Daddy?
Me: No (You are a such a smart little girl. Your insight makes me so proud!)
6: Why? Because we are Cubs fans?
Me: Yes, and we respect people.
6: Are they making fun of us because we live in Puerto Rico?
Me: No, but they might as well be. They are making fun of native Americans, like the people that the Crazy Horse Monument celebrates.
6: Why do they do it?
Me: (I don’t really have a good answer for that.) Most people are doing it just because everyone else is and they don’t think about how mean it is.

After the Cubs third out in the 9th.
6: Holding back a few little tears
Me: Don’t cry honey, they lose all the time. You’ll dehydrate yourself.

It’s so weird watching the Dodgers. What a crazy ass shuffling of players last year. And what the hell is Reyes doing on the Blue Jays. And also, what the fuck is with all the insane beards (e.g., Josh Reddick)?
